Air-operated diaphragm pumps

AODD pumps (air operated double diaphragm): self-priming, dry-run safe, ATEX-suitable — for almost any medium.

Air-operated diaphragm pumps use two diaphragms linked by a shaft and driven by compressed air. They prime dry, are safe against blocking and dry running, are infinitely adjustable via air pressure and handle thin, viscous, abrasive or solids-laden media.

As they need no electric motor, they are ideal for hazardous areas. Available in plastics (PP, PVDF, PTFE), aluminium and stainless steel with diaphragms in Santoprene, NBR, EPDM, Viton® or PTFE.

AODD — air operated double diaphragm

Robust air-operated diaphragm pumps for almost any medium

Two diaphragms connected by a shaft are moved alternately by compressed air. The result is hermetically separated, self-priming delivery without shaft seal and without an electric drive in the product area.

Air-operated diaphragm pumps prime dry, are deadhead safe and can be controlled infinitely via air pressure. This makes them the most universal pump type for difficult media and hazardous areas.

Air-operated diaphragm pumps (AODD) in practice

AODD pumps are the all-purpose tool in chemical and wastewater applications: they run dry, self-prime, tolerate solids and can be dead-headed. The price is a pulsating flow and noticeable air consumption – both manageable with a pulsation damper and correctly sized air line.

  1. Size the air line at least to the nominal air inlet diameter
  2. Install a service unit with water separator upstream
  3. Mount the pulsation damper on the discharge side directly at the pump
  4. Provide diaphragm rupture detection for critical media

Frequently asked questions

Why choose an air-operated diaphragm pump?
It is dry-run safe, self-priming, infinitely adjustable via air supply and works without electricity – ideal in hazardous areas and with solids-laden or highly viscous media.
Which diaphragm materials are available?
Santoprene, NBR, EPDM, neoprene, Hytrel and PTFE. PTFE offers almost universal chemical resistance, Santoprene the longest service life with aqueous media.
