Delavan distributor Germany – spray drying with SDX nozzles

As Delavan distributor Germany we supply and advise on high-pressure nozzles for spray drying. A liquid, solution or suspension is atomised into very fine droplets at high pressure and dried in the hot gas stream of a spray tower. The droplet spectrum directly forms the finished powder or granulate — so the nozzle determines particle size, bulk density, residual moisture and solubility of the end product.

Typical applications are milk and whey powder, coffee and flavour extracts, detergents, ceramic slips, pharmaceutical actives and catalysts. Delavan high-pressure nozzles work without atomising air: the swirl chamber creates the spin, the orifice disc the defined hollow cone.

Swirl chamber and orifice disc are separately exchangeable. Flow rate and spray angle can therefore be adjusted independently and wear parts replaced economically without changing the complete nozzle body.

SDX series at a glance

SDX
Standard series for large spray towers, high flow rates at pressures up to approx. 700 bar.
SDX III
High-pressure design with a fine droplet spectrum for sensitive products.
SDX V
Wear-resistant version with carbide inserts for abrasive slurries.
SDX Compact
Short design for tight installation spaces and compact dryers.
SDX Mini
Smallest version for laboratory, technical centre and pilot plants.

Frequently asked questions on spray drying

What are Delavan SDX nozzles used for?
SDX nozzles atomise solutions, suspensions and emulsions in high-pressure spray towers. Typical products are milk and whey powder, coffee and flavour extracts, detergents, ceramic slips, pharmaceutical actives and catalysts.
How does the nozzle influence powder quality?
Swirl chamber and orifice disc determine droplet size, spray angle and flow rate. These define particle size, bulk density, residual moisture and solubility of the dried powder.
Which SDX series suits my plant?
SDX for large spray towers, SDX III for fine droplet spectra, SDX V for abrasive media, SDX Compact for tight installation spaces and SDX Mini for laboratory and pilot plants. We select the swirl chamber and orifice disc combination to match flow rate and pressure.
Are wear parts available separately?
Yes. Swirl chamber, orifice disc and seals can be replaced individually — there is no need to change the complete nozzle body.

Delavan distributor Germany – spray nozzles for process and agriculture

VIPTech GmbH is a Delavan distributor Germany and supplies plant builders, furnace manufacturers, agricultural OEMs and maintenance teams with full-cone nozzles, hollow-cone and flat-fan nozzles; for cleaning tasks solid-stream nozzles and tank cleaning nozzles complete the range. Delavan nozzles are a benchmark for reproducible droplet spectra – critical wherever defined wetting, cooling or combustion is required.

What matters when selecting a nozzle

  • Spray pattern: full cone for area wetting, hollow cone for fine atomisation, flat fan for webs and rows
  • Flow and pressure: the characteristic is not linear – flow rises with the square root of pressure
  • Droplet size: fine droplets cool better but drift more strongly
  • Material: brass, stainless steel 1.4404, Hastelloy or ceramic depending on abrasion and chemistry

In practice the degree of overlap of the spray cones determines uniformity. For axially fed applications axial full-cone nozzles are the first choice. We calculate nozzle spacing from spray angle and target distance and design boom pitch so that adjacent cones overlap by roughly 30 %.

Detect wear before it gets expensive

A worn nozzle delivers more volume at the same pressure and produces a distorted pattern. Rule of thumb: if flow rises by more than 10 % compared with the new condition, replacement is due. The extra medium consumed usually pays for a new nozzle within a few weeks.

Nozzles are the cheapest component in a plant, yet they define product quality – saving here means paying twice in media consumption.VIPTech spray technology
